Russian boxing prospect Maxim Dadashev has passed away from injuries he sustained in his fight against Subriel Matias last Friday on ESPN. Dadashev was only 28-years old.
Dadashev was pulled out by his corner last Friday in the 11th round after he suffered terrific injuries to his head. The fight took place in the junior middleweight category. Immediately after the fight, he was taken to University of Maryland Prince George’s Hospital Center for a two-hour surgery to stop the bleeding in his brain. Dadashev was placed in medically induced coma after brain surgery. Sadly, he couldn’t wake up from it.
The news was confirmed by his trainer Buddy McGrit and strength and conditioning coach Donatas Janusevicius, according to ESPN.

“It just makes you realize what type of sport we’re in, man,” McGirt told ESPN. “He did everything right in training, no problems, no nothing. My mind is like really running crazy, right now. Like what could I have done differently? But at the end of the day, everything was fine (in training).
“He seemed OK, he was ready, but it’s the sport that we’re in. It just takes one punch, man.”
“Great, great guy. He was a trainers dream,” McGirt said. “If I had two more guys like him, I wouldn’t need anybody else because he was truly dedicated to the sport.” (H/T – ESPN)
Dadashev who hailed from St. Petersburg, Russia had a professional record of 13-1. He left behind his wife and a son.
