UFC featherweight bout between Ryan Hall and Ricardo Lamas has been canceled, as the former had been forced to pull out from the fight, as per MMA Junkie.

The reason behind this move has not been disclosed yet, and no official changes have been made to the card by the UFC as of yet. The promotion is apparently looking for opponents that can serve as a replacement to Hall, as Ricardo Lamas still wants to fight at the UFC Apex on August 29. This might be a difficult task for the promotion given the proximity to the event, and the ongoing pandemic. The replacement fighter, if there is one, is likely to be an American citizen or a foreigner with a work Visa.

Ricardo was ready for his comeback

Ryan Hall last fought in July last year and has won his last 8 fights. Lamas was also supposed to make his comeback a year after his devastating loss to Calvin Kattar by TKO. Lamas faced quite a few injuries after this fight and had detailed them in an Instagram video last year.

“I suffered 3 fractures in my jaw during the fight. Been in the hospital since & had surgery yesterday. Titanium plates were installed. I asked the doctor to install small laser guns in my mouth that I could activate with my tongue and shoot through my teeth but he said that was impossible. I’d like to thank everyone who reached out with kind messages. I’d like to thank my family, my beautiful wife, who without I wouldn’t be able to live my dream, my parents & brothers who have all supported me from day one & all my extended family for their support as well as my sponsors.”

“For my beloved city of Chicago, I’m sorry I let you down again, but I wanted to thank you for all the cheers you gave me during my introduction, it gave me chills and I will never forget it, Chicago truly has the best fans. For now, it’s quality time with my family & baby #3 coming early August which puts in perspective what’s really important in life.”, said Ricardo.

The latest lineup for the UFC’s Aug. 29 card includes:

  • Anthony Smith vs. Aleksandar Rakic
  • Robbie Lawler vs. Neil Magny
  • Alexa Grasso vs. Ji Yeon Kim
  • Ricardo Lamas vs. opponent TBA
