It wasn’t a long time ago when many believed Sage Northcutt was going to be the next MMA superstar. He had all the attributes necessary as well to be a commercial superstar.
But earlier this year, Sage Northcutt joined ONE Championship leaving the biggest MMA organisation in the world. He made his pro debut under the new organisation against Cosmo Alexandre of Brazil earlier in June and was he was knocked out in just 29-seconds.
The loss was extremely devastating for Northcutt as he suffered eight fractures which forced him to undergo a nine-hour long surgery in Singapore. Following his loss, UFC president Dana White said that Northcutt should retire from MMA.
“For him to say something like that, after that injury, I don’t understand the exact logic of why he would say something like that,” Northcutt told MMA Fighting in a recent interview. “Before, he was wishing me to do great in everything I happened to do in the future, and (to) say something like that is totally different.”
“I know that a lot of them that say anything negative don’t really understand, unless they’ve been in the footsteps (I’ve had to take), and having gone through an injury of that extent, or had to make the decisions I had to make,” he said. “I don’t really listen to any of that. I’m just thinking about all the people that are out there supporting me, my friends and everybody that are trying to give me support and help lift me up.” Northcutt concluded. (H/T -MMAFighting.com)
