“Santiago Ponzinibbio is dealing with a staph infection and will no longer fight Robbie Lawler at #UFC245, according to sources. Alternate plans being discussed.” Mike Bohn tweeted.
Ponzinibbio is currently riding on a seven-fight winning streak inside the Octagon having defeated the likes of Mike Perry, Gunner Nelson etc.
Robbie Lawler, on the other hand, is riding on a three-fight losing streak. His last three losses have been against Colby Covington, Ben Askren and Rafael Dos Anjos.
Even though UFC is looking for replacements, welterweights Geoff Neal and Curtis Millender have already thrown names into the mix to fight the former UFC welterweight champion.
UFC 245 features three title fights that include a welterweight title fight between Colby Covington and Kamaru Usman, a featherweight title fight between Alex Volkanovski and Max Holloway and a women’s bantamweight title fight between Germaine de Randamie and Amanda Nunes.
