UFC Bantamweight number one contender Merab Dvalishvili has been very vocal about his ‘Mexican’ fighting style for Sean O’Malley match. He’s even going out to call himself an adopted Mexican. However, O’ Malley is not impressed.
In an exclusive interview with MMA India show, Merab talks about how he plans to use ‘Mexican Style’ fighting to beat Sean.
What is Merab Dvalishvili ‘Mexican’ Fighting Style?
Mexican style fighting is renowned for its aggressive and relentless pressure. The fighter are often seen pushing the pace and forcing their opponents into exchange. A rushed opponent tend to be more vulnerable and make more mistakes.
Sean O’Malley vs Merab Dvalishvili Over the Years
In the past, Merab Dvalishvili has expressed his interest in fighting Sean O’Malley multiple times. Currently, Fans and promoters believe that he’s a top candidate for a match with O’Malley.
Dvalishvili has been constant on his pursuit of Sean. He was ready to fight O’Malley at UFC 264 when Louis Smolka had to pull out. And was also a backup fighter for O’Malley’s UFC 299 match against Marlon Vera. However, Dvalishvili has accused O’Malley of ignoring him since 2018.
After a strong title defense by O’Malley at the UFC 299, Merab openly criticized O’Malley for calling out Ilia Topuria instead of him after the match.
Now in the interview, Dvalishvili has revealed plans to fight O’Malley as part of UFC 306 at the Sphere on Sept. (However, there is no official confirmation from the UFC)
