UFC bantamweight fan favorite Sean O’Malley is hoping to cross paths with lightweight pro boxer Ryan Garcia someday in the future and hopes the UFC will be on board with it in the years to come.

Crossover fights aren’t anything new in the combat sports sphere. There have been big names from MMA such as Anderson Silva, Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley, Vitor Belfort, and Frank Mir who have swapped the cage with the squared circle. The biggest crossover fight till date, however, remains the 2017 affair between former UFC double champ Conor McGregor and the 50-0 undefeated boxing icon Floyd Mayweather Jr.

However, in the wake of Mayweather vs McGregor, there has been a lack of UFC fighters entering crossover bouts as the promotion itself has not really entertained such fights anymore.

If there’s opportunity five or six years down the line… the UFC would be down: Sean O’Malley

Aside from dismissing Mayweather vs McGregor 2, there have been numerous other cases where UFC fighters have been barred from boxing, such as the reigning heavyweight champ Francis Ngannou’s wish to box Tyson Fury or Deontay Wilder is yet to come to fruition.

However, Sean O’Malley is positive that in the years to come, the promotion will change its stance on crossover fights, and when it does, he would be the first in line to step into the ring.

“Speaking of boxing, I’d f*cking love to box one of these days,” O’Malley, who defeated Petr Yan at UFC 280 last month, told Logan Paul on the IMPAULSIVE podcast. “Unless I get big enough. Conor versus Floyd happened. I’m waiting for another guy my size. Gervonta Davis I kinda talked about before, he’s just not really a PPV guy. Maybe he will be someday, but realistically, he’s not.”

While acknowledging that ‘Tank’ may not be facing him, the one boxer ‘Suga Sean’ has his eyes on is the former WBC interim lightweight champ, Ryan Garcia.

“That’s what I’m saying, (Garcia). We gotta keep doing our thing, both keep winning, and become big enough to where the UFC — because UFC, they’re about money,” O’Malley went on, “So, if there’s the opportunity five or six years down the line, I’m the f*cking man, there’s another f*cking man in boxing, the UFC would be down. But, it has to be big enough.”
