Reigning UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou has hinted at a future move to professional boxing and it has been heavily speculated that the “Predator” may have his first encounter in the squared circle against none other than Tyson Fury, the WBC titleholder. Both men are known for their punching powers and while the combat sports community may split regarding the better puncher between the two, UFC bantamweight contender Sean O’Malley opines that Ngannou’s power won’t be enough to yield “The Gypsy King”.

Ngannou is set to defend his UFC heavyweight title against interim champion Ciryl Gane at UFC 270 which is set to take place on 22nd January at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

However, the combat sports fandom has its focus on Ngannou’s potential boxing rivalry brewing against Tyson Fury, especially after the latter recently challenged Ngannou to a boxing match, but donning MMA gloves instead of the sparring ones.

“Who would like to see me fight this beast boxing rules @ufc gloves? @danawhite @francis_ngannou,” Fury tweeted last week.

In his response, Ngannou said that he would opt for a fight in the cage, but with boxing gloves.

“How about MMA rules with boxing gloves? I can do you that favor” said Ngannou.

Sean O’Malley says Francis Ngannou is “big and terrifying” but says Tyson Fury would “piece him up”

While its unclear when we will see Fury vs Ngannou, or whether the bout would even take place, its no doubt that seeing the two greatest names in combat sports against one another would potentially match Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor in popularity.

Meanwhile, Sean O’Malley has given his two cents on the fight and while he lauded Ngannous’ destructive punching power, O’Malley believes that Fury would be able to get the better of him. The Briton has registered back to back dominating wins over Deontay Wilder, whom ‘Suga’ says is less powerful than Ngannou.

“Ngannou vs. Fury potential boxing fight. If I’m being real, I’ve seen Ngannou throw [punches] like he doesn’t have a lot of boxing skills. If you see how he throws some of his punches, it’s not like a good one too. It’s not even close [to Fury’s level]. With that being said, he could still catch him. He’s got that much f***ing power. Ngannou’s probably got more power than Wilder I’d say… So if they’re in a boxing ring, Francis is so big and terrifying but Tyson Fury would probably piece him up,” O’Malley said on his YouTube channel.
