In recent times, Sean O’Malley has emerged as not only one of the most interesting Bantamweight fighters in the UFC but is also perceived as a future world champion. Since suffering his sole professional career loss against Marlon Vera at UFC 252 in August last year, “Suga” Sean is on a three fight win streak and is confident to take on any fighter, even the former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. However, even Sean has an Achilles Heel- and that is Hasbulla Magomedov.

Ireland vs Russia tag-team match: Suga Sean would team up with Conor Mcgregor to face Khabib and Hasbulla

The past year in the global mixed martial arts scene saw the emergence of Hasbulla- a teenage social media star from Dagestan who became the most viral name in MMA. A close friend of Khabib, Hasbulla was due to fight Kazakh rapper Abdu Rozik and it become the most anticipated and most followed topic in the sport, with many MMA fighters diving into the hype.

Even though the fight didn’t take place, Hasbulla’s popularity is not going anywhere and many among the MMA roster shiver upon hearing his name- including Sean O’Malley, who would even pick a contest against Khabib but not ‘Mini Khabib’ Hasbulla.

Speaking to Caleb Pressley of Barstool Sports earlier this month, O’Malley touched upon his Irish heritage and that not many are really fond of the fact that the Montana native has an Irish ancestry.

On the same notion, Pressley made an interesting proposition- a tag team match between Ireland and Russia, with Suga Sean teaming up with the biggest Irish superstar in MMA- Conor McGregor, to square off against the Russian duo of Khabib and Hasbulla.

While O’Malley said he may be able to knock Khabib out, he’d rather stay clear off of Hasbulla’s path and would let McGregor face the teenager, because he feels Hasbulla can take him out.

“Oh, I could probably take out Khabib so Conor could take out Hasbulla”, said O’Malley.

“I wouldn’t fight him”, O’Malley replied after Pressley asked him if he was ‘scared’ of Hasbulla, “He’d only take me out, chop me down”.

While, realistically speaking, such a fight would never take place, its interesting to see how much respect Hasbulla has earned from the MMA fraternity, including Sean O’Malley.

Highlights:

  • Sean O’Malley would prefer facing Khabib but not Hasbulla if it came down to a tag-team match with him teaming up with Conor McGregor against the Russian Duo
  • O’Malley says Hasbulla can take him out and would rather have Conor face him
