Sean O’Malley is not only confident about becoming the next UFC Bantamweight champion, he has also decided who he will face for his first title defense.

Sean O’Malley is looking forward to the winner of Henry Cejudo vs. Marlon Vera

“Sugar” is all set to lock horns with the reigning 135-pound champ Aljamain Sterling in the main event at UFC 292 in August. Despite “Funk Master” has the advantage regarding the betting odds and is the favourite to win the fight, O’Malley is confident in securing a knockout victory over the current titleholder.

“I am a sniper, when Aljo walks forward his awkwardness is effective in MMA,” O’Malley said regarding the Sterling fight in a recent interview. “You’ve gotta give it to him because you watch him strike and you’re like, ‘What the hell is he doing?’ But look what he’s done. So, his awkwardness is effective, but I think it will be the downfall of him because I am a sniper… You can’t walk forward like that with me and cross your feet with your chin in the air because I will find it, and I will find it often. I’m not saying I’m gonna go out there and one-shot him, put his lights out in the first. I just believe that I will hit him over and over and over again to where he will fall.”

As he sees himself being the next champion at Bantamweight, O’Malley also reveals that for his first title defense as the 135-pound champ, he will be picking the winner of Henry Cejudo vs. Marlon Vera, which will be featured on the undercard of UFC 292.

Even though the Cory Sandhagen vs. Umar Nurmagomedov main event at UFC Nashville in August is speculated to determine the next bantamweight title challenger, O’Malley insists that won’t be happening when he’s the champ.

“Cory ain’t getting the f*****g title shot next,” O’Malley said. “If Chito wins. Henry versus Chito (winner). I’ll pick and choose after (beating Sterling),” said O’Malley on his Timbosugarshow podcast. [H/T BJPenn.com]
