Sean Strickland, the former UFC middleweight champion, recently took to social media to address his strained relationship with fellow Xtreme Couture teammate Chris Curtis. The two fighters had been close friends, but disagreements in the gym seem to have caused a rift between them.
Strickland pointed out that “weakness is cancer” within the training base. He emphasized that this weakness could spread like a virus, affecting everyone. Apparently, Curtis wanted to drill during sparring sessions, which clashed with Strickland’s approach. In an X post, Strickland wrote, “I can be pretty hard. Probably too militant. But Curt wanted to drill during sparring, and I said no, do it on your own time, and he lost it. Very gay. Curt, we miss you, lol.”
Before Curtis’ fight at UFC Vegas 90, Strickland advised him to turn down a fight against Brendan Allen. Strickland believed that Curtis’ lack of activity in the gym (due to spending time with his new baby) was affecting his performance. This conversation apparently added to the tension between the two fighters.
