Sean Strickland, the former UFC middleweight champion, is set to make his return in the co-main event of UFC 302 against Paulo Costa. After losing the belt to Dricus Du Plessis earlier this year, Strickland is determined to prove himself once again. In a recent interview, he expressed confidence in his abilities and discussed his upcoming fight with Costa.
Sean Strickland’s Confidence
Strickland firmly believes that the fight against Costa is his to lose. Despite facing a seasoned contender, he remains confident that victory is within his grasp. Speaking at Wednesday’s UFC 302 media day, Strickland stated, “I’m better than Costa. We know that; he knows that. I just have to fck up (to lose). Have I fcked up before? Yeah, sure, but I don’t think it’s going to happen on Saturday.”

Strickland views Costa as a straightforward challenge. While acknowledging the Brazilian’s dangerous abilities, he finds them predictable.
According to Strickland, “The thing with Costa, he’s a pretty basic guy. But just because you’re basic, that doesn’t mean you can’t fight. He just backs up and explodes and looks to catch you with something. That’s pretty much the take with Costa. He backs up, explodes, catches you with something, and then put pressure on him. Just don’t be a fcking idiot.”
As the co-main event of UFC 302 approaches, all eyes will be on Sean Strickland and Paulo Costa. Strickland’s straightforward approach and belief in his abilities make this matchup even more intriguing. Whether he can avoid that crucial mistake and secure the win remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: Strickland is ready to prove himself once again inside the octagon.
