Amidst all the chaos with the outbreak of COVID-19 all over the world, everything related to UFC 249 seems uncertain.

The event was earlier scheduled to take place in Brooklyn, New York. However due to the rising outbreak of the pandemic, the location had to be scrapped.

The UFC though have continued their meticulous efforts to keep the card alive. As per locations are concerned, Abu Dhabi was considered as a front runner according to many media sources however nothing was set in stone. Another name was tossed up, that being of Florida.

According to MMA Fighting’s Steven Marrocco, the negotiations with the Florida commission are still going on.

“UFC still talking with Florida commission about potentially hosting UFC 249, but no confirmation as of yet,” Marrocco wrote on Twitter. “Gov. DeSantis’ most recent order doesn’t preclude the FSBC from sanctioning fight. But as with everything, it’s a very unstable situation that could change.”

Florida actually hosted a recent MMA event, a closed doors card of Superior MMA in Jacksonville on March 21. The fact that the Sunshine State was able to successfully host the event is a big positive for the UFC. Florida also possesses a huge community which is a home for one of the biggest training grounds of the world in American Top Team.

The UFC had been trying hard for the card solely due to the pivotal main event. The card featured lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov book to fight Tony Ferguson for the fifth time. That took a huge blow yesterday as well as Nurmagomedov won’t be able to make it due to travel bans.

The UFC has reportedly offered top contender Justin Gaethje to Ferguson’s camp. Also welterweight champ Kamaru Usman and BMF title holder Jorge Masvidal has also shown some positive signs of stepping up. Former title challenger Dustin Poirier also being an option to replace Nurmagomedov.

The UFC has also been planning a heavyweight slugfest between Francis Ngannou and Jairzinho Rozenstruik. The bout was originally slated for UFC Columbus card on March 28. The event however was cancelled due to COVID-19.
