Exciting UFC featherweight prospect Shane Burgos and UFC featherweight veteran Cub Swanson had an absolute war at UFC Fight Night: Iaquinta vs. Cowboy. Burgos eventually came out victorious due to a razor close split decision victory. In a recent interview, he revealed that his loss last year at the hands of Calvin Kattar in a close fight made him appreciate winning.
In the interview, Burgos talked about how because he was previously undefeated as a professional fighter as well as an amateur fighter, he used to take winning for granted, but now after experiencing a defeat he respects and appreciates winning. Here’s what he had to say:
Yes, so I feel that it is fair to say that it sucks losing. I definitely don’t wanna feel that again, but it did make me appreciate winning on a whole different level. I really made me hungry for wins. I was till then undefeated as a professional, I was also undefeated as an amateur. So I never sort of respected winning, I took it for granted.
So to go out there and lose, to not get that accomplishment of winning, it made appreciate winning on a whole different level.
