Shavkat Rakhmonov, the undefeated UFC welterweight contender, has been vocal about his desire for an interim title fight while Belal Muhammad recovers from a severe bone infection in his foot. Rakhmonov, who was scheduled to challenge Muhammad for the title at UFC 310 on December 7, believes that an interim title fight is necessary to keep the division active and to give himself a chance to prove his worth.
During an appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, Rakhmonov explained his reasoning, stating, “Belal doesn’t need to be greedy. If I become an interim champ, he’s still going to have a belt too. And it’s going to be champ vs. champ, even bigger fight.”

Rakhmonov’s manager, Sayat Abdrakhmanov, revealed that the UFC is currently working on finding him an opponent for UFC 310. Rakhmonov has expressed his willingness to fight for the interim belt, suggesting former champion Kamaru Usman as a worthy opponent.
Muhammad, on the other hand, has dismissed the idea of an interim title, claiming that he only needs six weeks to heal. However, Rakhmonov believes that Muhammad’s recovery might take longer, and securing the interim belt would make their eventual fight even bigger.
The UFC has yet to make a final decision on the matter, but Rakhmonov remains hopeful that an interim title fight will be arranged. He is eager to continue his ascent in the welterweight division and prove that he is ready for a title shot.
