When ONE Fight Night 33 opens at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok on 12 July, all eyes will be on the bantamweight MMA clash between Mongolia’s Shinechagtga Zoltsetseg and the Philippines’ Jhanlo Mark Sangiao – a fight that could define both men’s futures in the division.
Sangiao enters the contest as one of Filipino MMA’s brightest prospects, but he’s carrying the weight of a crushing submission defeat to Enkh-Orgil Baatarkhuu that ended his perfect start in ONE Championship.
The Team Lakay product hasn’t competed since that August 2023 setback, making this comeback fight against another Mongolian opponent even more significant.
For Zoltsetseg, this represents a golden opportunity to derail a highly touted prospect whilst getting his own career back on track following a second-round TKO loss to Kwon Won Il last year.
The 28-year-old Mongolian has been studying his opponent extensively and believes Sangiao offers no real threats across any area of mixed martial arts.
“I trained hard and put in a lot of effort for this fight against Mark, particularly focusing on my takedowns,” Zoltsetseg said. “He has no advantages over me. My striking is superior, and my wrestling is also better. I can defeat him in both striking and wrestling.”
Zoltsetseg’s boxing background – he was slated to represent Mongolia at the 2016 Olympics before switching to MMA – gives him tremendous confidence in his ability to end fights with his hands.
“If I touch him once, he is gonna go lights out. My boxing will be the answer. I am going to put him to sleep,” he said.
The Zorky MMA representative enters this bout feeling healthier than he has in recent fights, which he believes was the key factor in his recent struggles.
“I entered my last two fights with some injuries, which is why I couldn’t push myself 100 per cent. Now, I am fully recovered. I am focused and gonna win this fight,” Zoltsetseg said.
