Stamp Fairtex is going to rely on her striking advantage in the ONE Women’s Atomweight World Grand Prix Championship Final on Friday, 3 December.
The two-sport World Champion goes to war with India’s mixed martial arts sensation Ritu “The Indian Tigress” Phogat at ONE: WINTER WARRIORS live from the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
“If the fight goes to the ground, I will have to find a way to get back into my own game,” the Thai striker revealed during media day on Tuesday, 30 November.
“I will not play her game.”
The match is a quintessential showdown between two fighters with contrasting specialties. Stamp’s striking prowess versus Phogat’s wrestling mastery guarantees this historic clash will be an epic contest. Both atomweight athletes have used their field of expertise to punch their tickets into the final.
Putting her 7-1 MMA record on the line, Stamp knows she will need to close the distance if she wants to land her trademark combinations and right kicks on the Evolve MMA representative. But the Fairtex standout knows that she must be very mindful when executing her attacks because they could present takedown opportunities for Phogat.
“I would have to improvise depending on the situation. I would have to see if I would have to take a risk because there’s also a risk of her taking me down if I act too fast,” the 24-year-old said.
However, if she does manage to keep the match on its feet, Stamp is very confident that “The Indian Tigress” will find herself laying on the canvas after an exchange of blows.
“If she would try to stand and fight with me, she would get knocked out,” she added.
After starting 2021 with her first career MMA defeat at the hands of Alyona Rassohyna, Stamp avenged her loss against the Ukrainian grappler in their rematch during the Grand Prix quarterfinals before prevailing against Julie Mezabarba in the semis.
A highlight-reel finish would be a perfect way for the former ONE Atomweight Muay Thai and Kickboxing World Champion to close out the year.
Besides the tournament silver belt, the #2-ranked MMA contender is also guaranteed a shot to dethrone longtime division queen “Unstoppable” Angela Lee for the ONE Atomweight World Title, should she emerge victorious over “The Indian Tigress” in the Grand Prix final.
