Stephen Thompson wants to fight Jorge Masvidal: ‘NMF VS BMF Fight’

UFC’s nicest fighter on the roster, Stephen Thompson has called out his former opponent Jorge Masvidal for a rematch. The callout is also as nice as Wondlerboy as he has stated that he wants to face a striker and Masvidal perfectly fits in that category. Stephen Wonderboy Thompson is coming off a tough loss against Belal Muhammad and Gilbert Burns. Before that, he was riding great momentum as he had scored wins over Geoff Neal and Vicente Luque. He is 2-3 in his last five UFC matches and is at the tail-end of his career as he hasn’t looked as effective as he use to look in his early UFC days.

In his recent interview with MMA FIGHTING.COM, Stephen Wonderboy Thompson has respectfully called out Jorge Masvidal and is eyeing a striker vs striker matchup.

” I’m Ranked one higher than Masvidal. Give me a striker UFC. Give me someone who wants to stand there and strike. Masvidal would be awesome. NMF VS BMF.”

Stephen Thompson is always considered the gatekeeper of the UFC’s welterweight division. Stephen Thompson has challenged for the title twice before against Tyron Woodley but lost both those fights. He was recently on a great winning streak but then got stopped by Gilbert Burns and lost a lopsided decision match. He then recently faced a similar loss to Belal Muhammad.

He had also previously called out Jorge Masvidal. The duo had previously fought at UFC 217 where Thompson defeated Masvidal by decision.

Speaking recently with BJPenn.com, Stephen Thompson said that he wants to make his comeback in May and face Masvidal.

“I would like to fight in May, we will see though,” Thompson said via the outlet. “I had some names thrown at me like Robbie Lawler and now Masvidal came off the loss so that would be a fun rematch. The NMF vs. the BMF, so yeah man those are the kind of the guys I’m looking at. Give me a striker for my next fight. Don’t give me a wrestler, and the wrestlers are just a different pedigree. I’ve fought wrestlers in the past but now they are on a different level.”

“It’s not fun fights and the fans don’t like it when guys just hold you down and not really improve anything,” Thompson said. “With the Burns fight, he just held me there, he was hitting me with a few shots but nothing hurt. I want to get back into some exciting fights, let’s make a standup fight happen. Give me Masvidal, he’s on a losing streak as well so let’s make that happen…”

“We have been facing off with some wrestlers and they have been holding us down. So, let’s get two guys that want to stand up and throw hands,” Thompson added. “We fought in the past but we both have made changes and are both coming off losses, so let’s put us together and give the fans what they want.”

Jorge Masvidal is currently riding a three-fight losing streak and is on a rough career patch. He last fought against his arch-rival Colby Covington in the main event at UFC 272. He lost the fight via decision and was dominated by Colby on feet and on the ground. The fight against Stephen Thompson now perfectly makes sense for Jorge Masvidal.
