T. J. Dillashaw vs Henry Cejudo will mark the debut of UFC on ESPN. However the fight has far more reaching consequences. With talks of UFC flyweight division being scrapped lurking around the corner the fight may very well be the decider of several fighters competing at 125 pounds. The fight will also present before Dillashaw the opportunity to become only the fourth fighter to hold the belt in two divisions simultaneously in the UFC.
In such a scenario the importance of the fight can’t be overlooked. Ariel Helwani brought the two fighters together on his MMA Show on the 31st December special edition. The two went at each other right from the let go.
When asked by Ariel about the snake skinned jacket wore by Cejudo, Dillashaw promptly replied:
The last guy trying to wear a snake skinned suit got his ass whooped so its his turn next.
Not the one to take an insult lying down Cejudo quickly fired when triggered by Helwani’s statement about how T. J. believes he has been asked to shut down the 125 pound division.
You’re going to have your tail between your legs. Do you know how to kill a snake Ariel? You grab it by his tail and whoop him on his head.
Since Dillashaw will be the one stepping into the unknown territory of flyweight he mentioned that he has had a great time cutting weight.
It’s on schedule. It’s actually quite enjoyable. I’m lean and mean and it feels great. It’s the lightest and strongest I’ve ever been. It’s exciting to show how true of a professional I am and get in there and make history.
Dillashaw also accused Cejudo of being the most boring fighter on the UFC.
Closing the interview, Cejudo challenged Dillashaw and put up an interesting prize on stake:
If you take me down I’ll give you the fight. I’m that confident. Everyone tries and fails.
UFC Fight Night 143 takes place on 19th January at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
