Japanese battle-hardened striker Taiki Naito is on a path of redemption as he faces a tough challenge against Johan Estupinan at ONE Fight Night 32.
On 7 June, Naito will put everything he has on the line to secure a much-needed victory at this crucial stage of his career, having experienced more losses than wins recently.
The third-ranked flyweight kickboxing contender believes that the Colombian will be a great opponent for his next fight and the perfect test of his revamped skills.
“I don’t think [Estupinan is] a particularly technical fighter, but I expect him to come swinging with momentum. That’s why he’s a good opponent to test myself against now,” Naito said.
For his part, the 22-year-old Estupinan has made a name for himself with his high-flying, ultra-aggressive fighting style which not only earned him victories but also won him millions of new fans.
The former Shoot Boxing Champion is well aware of his opponent’s skills and growing reputation in the sport. Anticipating a thrilling fight, Naito said that he has what it takes to stop the Colombian sensation in his tracks.
“Since he’ll be coming forward, I’m 100 percent sure it will be an intense fight. I need to throw myself into those tough exchanges. If I can do that, I believe my chances of knocking him out will increase, and I think I can finish him,” Naito said.
“I really want to get a KO this time. Not just win but knock him out.”
However, knocking out an in-form fighter won’t be an easy task, but the Japanese striker says that he has added some new tools since his last fight and is eager to put them to the test.
“I’ve incorporated some new elements since my last loss,” Naito said. “As a fighter, I do feel that it’s been quite a long gap, but I believe this time away has helped me grow in certain ways, so I’m really looking forward to it.”
