UFC strawweight star Tatiana Suarez wanted to test herself against Rose Namajunas, but the former 115-pound champ’s jump up to flyweight came to her as a shock.

I’m back to 115…she’s going back to 125. I’m like, crazy: Tatiana Suarez

While the 10th ranked strawweight fighter was aiming for a showdown with the former two time divisional champion with a move down from flyweight, the recent report surrounding “Thug” Rose moving up to 125 to face Manon Fiorot at UFC Paris 2 this September is something Suarez described on The MMA Hour as “crazy”.

“It’s really the craziest thing I’ve ever seen,” said Suarez. “I’ve been wanting to fight her. Because I’m like, ‘Yeah, I’m back to 115 – maybe I could fight Rose,’ and it’s like, she’s going back to 125. I’m like, crazy.”

“I think she totally dodged me,” she joked about Namajunas making the move. “No, I’m messing. Not at all. I think this was her plan all along. I wouldn’t even say that if I thought that.”

All that being said, there’s no feeling of grudge between the two as Suarez’s desire to fight Namajunas stems from just the fact that she holds so much respect for her.

“Whenever I say I want to fight her, it’s not because I want to go beat her up, or something like that, I don’t like her. I just think she’s such a good fighter. Like, I’ll watch her and I’m like, amazed because how great she is,” she added.

Following a four year hiatus, the undefeated Suarez returned to action in February this year at UFC Vegas 70 where she defeated Montana De La Rosa via 2nd round submission in a flyweight bout. Prior to that, she fought Nina Ansaroff at strawweight at UFC 238 back in June 2019.

The last time Namajunas stepped into the Octagon was on May 7th of last year at UFC 274 in Phoenix, Arizona when she lost her Strawweight belt to Carla Esparza via split decision.
