UFC 300 features a special documentary about Oliveira’s home back in Brazil. In the film, he answers the question: What is the meaning of Do Bronx?
He said, “A kid who came from nothing, from the bottom, from the favelas, disparaged. If God were to take me today, I would die very happy.
For all that I have, for all that I provided my parents. That’s what “Do Bronx” means to me.”

Charles Oliviera: From the Slums to the UFC
Oliveira’s journey from the slums of Brazil to the top of the UFC is a testament to his determination, skill, and resilience. In his early days, Oliveira’s talent for Brazilian jiu-jitsu made him a local star. He won the São Paulo championship twice, the Copa Nação Jiu-Jitsu in 2005, and in 2006 won a total of 16 medals.
In 2007, Oliveira began to steer his career towards mixed martial arts (MMA). He started his amateur and then professional MMA career in 2007 in his home country of Brazil, compiling a record of 12–0, with six knockouts and five submissions. After that, In early 2010, Oliveira signed for the UFC and made his debut against Darren Elkins.
Oliveira is well-known for beating the former three-time Bellator Lightweight Champion Michael Chandler for the vacant UFC Lightweight Championship, following former champion Khabib Nurmagomedov’s retirement, while headlining UFC 262 on May 15, 20212. He holds a record of the fifth highest finishes-per-win percentage in UFC history (18 finishes / 20 wins: 90%).
Now, he will face Arman at the UFC 300 and will most likely challenge Islam for the belt later this year.
