The return of Conor McGregor: there are chances, but not the most realistic

34-year-old MMA and martial arts legend Irishman Conor McGregor has not entered the octagon since July 11, 2021, when he broke his leg in a fight with American Dustin Poirier. Given that McGregor has won just three of the last four fights, the return of the Irishman from a sports point of view does not look like a TOP event, but interest in Conor is still high, because the UFC could well capitalize on such an event.

The main problem with the return of Conor McGregor, besides the difficulties with getting in shape for a fighter who has not fought for almost two years, is the fact that after Conor broke his leg, he left the anti-doping program, although he remained under a contract with the UFC. Under the rules, a fighter who has interrupted his career and has not been tested for doping for some time must pass at least two successful tests within six months before returning to the octagon.

Chances of Conor returning in 2023

Conor still hasn’t made it, because his fight against Michael Chandler, which was planned for this year, is not very realistic, although the UFC still believes that there is a chance that McGregor will return to MMA in 2023.

If McGregor does return, it will be possible to bet on his fight at the Mostbet bookmaker, where, in addition to sports betting, there is live casino Bangladesh and other types of gambling entertainment – for example, virtual sports, with the ability to bet famous fighters on virtual fights.

There is one clue in the rules that, in exceptional cases, the UFC can allow an athlete to compete ahead of schedule, after passing one anti-doping test. The only problem is that this exception was applied only once and the practice of applying it was a failure.

An exception

In 2016, Brock Lesnar was allowed to compete without having to go through a six-month anti-doping program, but he subsequently got caught using a banned substance and failed the test, receiving a one-year ban and an annulment from his fight with Mark Hunt. Conor McGregor, of course, is a respected fighter, but no one can guarantee that his early admission to the competition will not lead to the same result.

UFC president Dana White has confirmed that McGregor has yet to return to the anti-doping program, but has not ruled out a return to the octagon this year. He simply said that he does not look so far into the future and, by his principles, never excludes anything that may happen in the future.

“We’ll see how it turns out,” White said. “Now they say one thing, but who knows what will happen next. I don’t talk about shit until it happens. Sitting here and hypothetically thinking how a million different things could happen is stupid. I’m focused on what’s happening this Saturday and then next Saturday. Even UFC 300 is not on my mind right now.”

McGregor has started to stir up interest in the fight with Chandler

Confirms the chances of McGregor returning this year and his behavior during the filming of the reality show, when Conor’s team almost got into a fight with Michael Chandler’s team. Chandler’s team was unbeatable throughout the season, and Kurt Holobo defeated McGregor’s ward Lee Hammond, which probably provoked a conflict that only Dana White himself could stop.

“It started to escalate and no one interfered with it,” White said. “So I realized that I had to do it. This is not good. Because what people don’t understand is when they see this happening and they think, “Oh, they love it!” The commission doesn’t like it and it’s bad when that happens.”

Whatever the epic ends with the return of Conor McGregor to the world of martial arts, it will be a high-profile event for MMA, since with the departure of the Irishman, fighters with the same fame and media attractiveness did not appear, and attempts to return Khabib Nurmagomedov to the octagon have so far failed.
