Finally, after a long wait of 14 years, Tito Ortiz finally got his revenge as he knocked out his longtime rival Chuck Liddell in the first round of their fight today at the Forum in Los Angeles.

This fight was a trilogy promoted by Golden Boy’s Oscar De La Hoya of Chuck and Tito’s classic fights which took place back in 2004 and 2006. Both of which were won by Chuck Liddell.

Both fighters started out cautious and measured their punches. with Oritz stalking Liddell for the majority of the round and landing few exchanges. It was moments later that they engaged in another flurry of punches, with Ortiz landing a straight right that immediately dropped Liddell to the canvas. The referee immediately jumped to stop the fight.

Tito Ortiz says if he was Liddell’s manager he would have told him to retire

Tito Ortiz believes that Chuck Liddell’s time is over and he should stay retired and perhaps become an ambassador of the sport.

If I was his manager, then no,” said Ortiz when asked he would have let Liddell sign on for the fight (h/t Jose Youngs of MMA Fighting). “I would have told Chuck, ‘No, let’s get you an ambassador job. Let’s promote your name and get you to signings and do other means of making money.’”

However, Ortiz believes if Chuck Liddell wants to keep fighting then it’s totally up to him.

You can’t hold someone back,” Ortiz said. “If they feel something they want to do and they want to fight and continue to fight, then you’ve to go to let them walk out on their own.

So, If he still wants to fight, then let’s find him an opponent. Let’s find him someone that isn’t a Tito Ortiz.

I don’t want to take anything away from Chuck. If wants to compete, then let him compete. Maybe not as the main event, of course. But let’s find him someone that’s a tune-up for him because I’m not a tune-up fight.
