Tito Ortiz is all set to make his Combate Americas debut. Combate CEO Campbell McLaren on Tuesday told Generacion MMA that Ortiz (20-12-1) will fight former WWE wrestler and former PRIDE fighter Alberto Del Rio (9-5).

Furthermore, Combate Americas vice president of operations and communications Mike Afromowitz told MMA Junkie that the fight will take place at  a 210 pound catchweight. The date and venue is yet to be decided. Afromowitz also gave further details about how the pairing came to be.

“The fight is going to happen,” Afromowitz said. “I came up with the idea a few months ago, after Alberto had expressed his intention of wanting to fight for Combate Americas, and brought the idea to my boss Campbell McLaren. We went out to both camps and have put this fight together. It’s on.”

Tito Ortiz firstly retired from mixed martial arts following a defeat at the hands of Forest Griffin back in 2012. He would later sign a contract with Bellator MMA to come out of retirement. “The Hunnington Beach Bad Boy” would retire again after a four fight stint with the promotion. Ortiz came out of retirement for the second time to fight his old rival Chuck Liddell in a trilogy fight under the Golden Boy Promotions. The 44 year old signed with Combate in April. Even though he had plans to take up a management position with Golden Boy, he later withdrew stating that the owner Oscar De La Hoya wasn’t invested in the sport.

Alberto Del Rio last fought in a mixed martial fight back in 2010. Just an year later he would make his promotional debut with WWE. Del Rio had two tenures with the front runner pro wrestling organization. Following a rift from the promotion, Del Rio went to compete in independent promotions and a short stint with Impact Wrestling as well. Interestingly, he has also served as the President of Combate Americas. However, his position was that of a figurehead. His main job was to promote the organisation in Latin America.
