Earlier this month at the Madison Square Garden in the main event of UFC 244, Jorge Masvidal defeated Nate Diaz via TKO [Doctors stoppage].
Masvidal was the dominant fighters throughout the fight. He outboxed and outstruck Nate Diaz throughout the fight. Both guys went back and forth with each other for three full rounds. Masvidal was the better fighter for the majority of the three rounds.
The fight was scheduled for five rounds after sustaining heavy damage through three rounds, the doctors stopped the fight for Nate Diaz’ safety. The fans weren’t happy with the stoppage and in fact, Nate Diaz said during the post-fight interview that he would have made a comeback later in the fight.
However, former UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw who is currently serving a two-year suspension for taking EPO revealed that he agrees with the doctor’s decision to stop the fight and he doesn’t think that Diaz would have made a comeback in the later rounds. However, he also sympathises with Diaz.
“Yeah, I do think so. As a fighter, I would say f**k no, I want to keep fighting. Every fighter should say that when they are in there,” TJ Dillashaw said on the Impaulsive podcast. “But, dude, it was a gnarly cut, and he is better in the fourth and fifth rounds because of his cardio but he was getting his ass whopped. He would have finished Masvidal to win that fight.”
“I don’t think he would have. I think Masvidal had the fight won, too. That is why I stop the fight. Obviously, it was in that situation I would say f**k no and give me every second I need to try and win that fight,” he added. “I understand Nate’s argument there but the cut was not [good]. Unfortunately, he has so much scar tissue that you could flick him in the eye and it will open up.” (H/T – BJPenn.com)
