In a recent video on his YouTube channel, Tom Aspinall provided an exciting update on his long-awaited fight with Jon Jones. The UK native, who claimed the interim heavyweight championship at UFC 295 with a victory over Sergei Pavlovich, has been calling out Jones for a title unification fight for over a year.
Aspinall revealed that he has finally agreed to the fight, saying, “I’ve said ‘yes’ to the fight [vs. Jones]. I’ve agreed to it, obviously, and yes that’s it. I’m just waiting for his side and the UFC to sort it out.” This announcement comes after Jones’ octagon interview at UFC 309, which gave fans hope that the much-anticipated clash might finally happen.
Tom Aspinall, who also successfully defended his title against Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304, expressed his readiness to face Jones. “I’m just training and getting everything focused to be as fit and ready as I possibly can. Who knows? They might spring the date on me quick. Or they might say ‘the date’s going to be in six months,’ I don’t know. But that’s always kind of what happens between fights anyway, you never really know when your next one is so I’m just preparing now.”
Tom Aspinall Vs Jon Jones, a clash of the Titans
The potential fight between Aspinall and Jones has been dubbed one of the biggest heavyweight clashes in UFC history. Aspinall believes he possesses a different set of skills, aggression, speed, and power compared to Jones’ previous opponents. “Good fight against Stipe. Let’s remember, I ain’t Stipe, completely different. And I possess a whole different attribute of skills, aggression, speed, power, and everything else to Stipe Miocic. So, Stipe is retired, much respect to him. Much respect to Jon Jones, as well, believe it or not, but I’m coming for both of them belts and 2025 is when it’s going to happen.”
Tom Aspinall’s determination and confidence have garnered significant attention from the MMA community, with many fans eagerly awaiting confirmation of the fight date. While Jones has yet to officially accept the bout, the UFC community remains hopeful that this historic matchup will come to fruition in 2025.
