One of the best lightweights on the planet Tony Ferguson is set to at UFC 256 when he fights one of the rising lightweight contender Charles Oliveira.
The MMA world was waiting for the return of Tony Ferguson. Tony has been granted his wish to fight once more before the end of the year according to Dana White. UFC president Dana White confirmed the booking to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto. It will be added to the Dec. 12 card in Las Vegas that is currently being headlined by a bantamweight title fight between champion Petr Yan and top contender Aljamain Sterling.

Ferguson later confirmed with an Instagram post that he’ll be fighting on Dec. 12.
Ferguson vs Oliviera: Battle of submissions
Ferguson (25-4 MMA, 15-2 UFC) will fight for the first time since losing an interim lightweight title fight to Justin Gaethje last May at UFC 249, which snapped a 12-fight winning streak. “El Cucuy” has been vocal about his desire to get one more fight in before 2020 came to a close. He was linked to a potential fight with Dustin Poirier at UFC 254, but the booking never materialized.
Tony took to social media recently to call out former Bellator MMA champion and UFC newcomer Michael Chandler, but Chandler told ESPN he needed a break after serving as an alternate for an October lightweight title fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje. Although Chandler’s services ultimately weren’t needed in that fight on Oct. 24, he went through a full camp and cut weight as a backup.
With Chandler unavailable, Tony will now turn his attention to Oliveira. Ferguson and Oliveira are the Nos. 3- and 6-ranked lightweights, respectively, according to the UFC’s official rankings.
Oliveira (29-8 MMA, 17-8 UFC), meanwhile, is looking to extend a seven-fight winning streak at 155 pounds – all of which have come by stoppage. In his most recent bout last March, Oliveira submitted Kevin Lee by guillotine choke. Oliveira is on a serious run, as he’s won his past seven contests, finishing every opponent.
Ferguson and Oliveira, who joined the UFC in 2011 and 2010, respectively, have 27 fight night bonuses between the two of them and a combined 28 UFC finishes.
