Tony Ferguson had been suffering from personal mental health problems for a while now, but last month he tweeted that he has been cleared by the doctors to return back to the octagon.
Although most fans have wanted to see him fight against UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, it’s highly unlikely that he fight him next. As Nurmagomedov looks forward to defending his title against interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier at UFC 241 in Abu Dhabi on September 7, the former interim champion Ferguson has hinted that he wants a fight against former two-division champion Conor McGregor.
Yesterday, Ferguson tweeted that he was in Las Vegas for a “business meeting” regarding his future fights with the UFC, which was later also confirmed by Ariel Helwani.

But earlier today, Ferguson tweeted ‘“I’m Back MF’s” – Champ Shit Only’ which clearly hinted that the meeting with the UFC brass had gone well and he is all set to return to the Octagon.

Brett Okamoto of ESPN shed some light about the meeting and said that UFC is happy to have Ferguson back.
Tony Ferguson and his new management, Ballengee Group, met with UFC brass in Las Vegas today. I’m told meeting went well, no fight agreed upon yet. But it’s possible things move quite fast from here. Tony is excited to fight, UFC excited to have him back.

Tony Ferguson is riding on an 11-fight winning streak, with his most recent victory coming against Anthony Pettis at UFC 229 last October.
