Armenian-Russian MMA fighter Arman Tsarukuyan is leaving no stone unturned in his preparation before facing Charles Oliviera at UFC 300- and his extreme preparations include training 7,000 ft above the sea level.

Arman Tsarukyan is training at the Elbrus mountains

Arman Tsarukuyan exudes confidence in his training sessions with former Russian MMA fighter Fedor Emelianenko and has stated that his cardio will be “next level” when he competes in the UFC 300.

Speaking to the Russian YouTube channel Ushatayka, when Tsarukuyan was asked why he chose this training camp at Mount Elbrus, the highest peak in Russia and Europe, he stated that it is the highest altitude available for training.

“I chose this place because it is the highest point for training, the base is lacking in Russia that is the the highlands, the first training camp is 21 days here, I’ll spend the second training camp, I’ll spend the middle mountains in Kislivodsk and then I’ll fly to America in 8 weeks before the fight.”

Tsarukuyan also talked about how he is focusing on strength and endurance training at the moment and will move on to fighting and sparring after he has been thorough with his initial training routine.

Arman Tsarukuyan has a record of 21-3 with 9 knockouts and 5 submissions, he earned the crucial fight at UFC 300 by pulling off a dominating win over Beneil Dariush in Dec. 2023.

Why do athletes choose to train at high altitudes?

Previously, Islam Makhachev also trained at the Elbrus Mountains when he was preparing for his title defense against Alexander Volkanovski, which he later defended successfully. Makhachev was seen jumping in ice water and burying himself in the snow of Mount Elbrus. Many athletes have previously chosen to train at high altitudes to improve their cardio. Doctors say that working out at high altitudes increases endurance capacity and can improve physical abilities.

The 27-year-old lightweight contender, Arman Tsarukuyan has his sight fixed on the Championship belt in the UFC lightweight division which currently belongs to Islam Makhachev, Tsarukuyan has to overcome Charles Oliviera before dreaming of getting his hands on the belt by defeating Islam Makhachev.
