Former UFC title challenger Glover Teixeira showed today that he still has a lot left in his tank as he defeated a surging contender in Thiago Santos.
In the main event of UFC Vegas 13, Teixeira submitted Marreta via rear-naked choke in the third round. Glover Teixeira was almost knocked out in the first round when Santos hammered him with hard punches followed by a heavy ground and pound.
However, Glover showed gis toughness by hanging in there and securing a takedown and dishing out punishments of his own. While Glover was outgunned on the feet, Thiago Santos could do nothing while on his back.
This scenario continued in the second round, however, Marreta came in early and clipped Glover with a hard right hand which dropped him. Santos then followed up with heavy ground and pound, but Glover didn’t give up and he turned things around and took ground control over Santos and sinking his elbow and then choked him out with a rear-naked choke.
With this win, he is now a top contender to challenge UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz.
Here’s how twitter reacted to Glover Teixeira’s performance.
What a fight. What a win for Glover Teixeira.
Santos rocks Teixeira to start the third, Teixeira weathers the storms and eventually wins via RNC.
That’s five in a row now for the 41-year-old Teixeira.

That was awesome. We got to see the explosiveness and power of Santos, and the durability and underrated ground game of Glover all play out in less than three rounds. Fantastic main event.

Glover Teixeira survives a hellacious punch from Thiago Santos as the start of round 3 and then comes back to finish with a rear naked choke.
Glover getting a title shot at 41 is just amazing. #UFCVegas13

Forget Dominick Reyes, Glover Teixeira is the real reason Jon Jones left for heavyweight. #UFCVegas13 pic.twitter.com/mjlZlc3tw4

Glover Teixeira gets it done in R3. Sub. After he was badly hurt in R1, and dropped in R3. Amazing.

Fucking insane. Glover Teixeira. What a legend.

Pardon my language, because Glover is too nice to say it, but if this mother fucker doesn't fight for a title in his next goddamn bout that is some mother fucking absolute punk ass bull fucking shit.

I legitimately wanna see Jan vs. Glover. I’m stunned it has never happened. Do it before the Adesanya fight.

Glover Teixeira’s fight IQ has to be in the 99.9 percentile. What he lacks in physical abilities at his age he makes up for in smarts. #UFCVegas13

I get it. Superfights. But it's an outright crime that Glover Teixeira isn't going to challenge for a title in his next fight. #UFCVegas13

Some advice for the next one. When you knock Glover down and can't finish him immediately, make him get back on his feet. He's a master at finding a way to win. #UFCVegas13

Glover Teixeira is 18 years deep into this game. He debuted at WEC 3, for God's sake. Zane Frazier, who fought at UFC 1, headlined that card. And at 41 years old, Teixeira's still out here doing his thing, surviving nukes from top-5 monsters and rallying back to win. Incredible.

IT’S GLOVER WITH THE THIRD ROUND WIN!

Glover fought like he was trying to teach his nephew a lesson for messing with him

I'm one of Glover's biggest admirers and thought today was a nightmare match-up for him. Just an unbelievable win. #UFCVegas13
