UFC News: Tyron Woodley comes up with a very classy reaction after being dominated by Gilbert Burns

Tyron Woodley

UFC Fight Night 176 featured a pivotal main event as former welterweight champion Tyron Woodley took on Gilbert Burns.

‘The Chosen One’ made his much anticipated return after almost 15 months of hiatus. However his home coming was spoiled by a surging Gilbert Burns. He suffered a lopsided unanimous decision loss against Burns. He got dropped twice and was dominated on the ground. He lost all five rounds on each of judges’ scorecards with two judges scoring a 10-8 round against him.

Woodley issues a classy message!

Shortly after his defeat, a disappointed Woodley took to Instagram to address his feelings. Despite getting dominated, he issued a classy statement for his fans.

“What’s up people. Like I said, you just can’t get on the camera when you win, you have to get on the camera when you lose too and umm I felt good. I don’t have no excuses,” Woodley explained. “I felt good and I trained hard. I was in great shape. I felt like I did everything right. Everything felt good from the walkout to the stretch and every single thing about the fight. I looked (Gilbert Burns) in the eyes yesterday and I knew he was going to be ready to fight. I thought that was good. He did a good job of you know keeping the distance and not coming into shots. And I just felt like I was reaching so I don’t have any excuses. I will hold my head high. A lot of mother f*ckers would have let somebody finish them off in that moment but I didn’t give up. I was just thinking about everything going on right now and all those people protesting and fighting for something good. So I was like ‘I just can’t give up in here’ and I never really gave up.”

Woodley had aspirations of ‘cleaning’ up the division before possibly moving up to middleweight. That obviously will have to wait as of now. Burns on the other hand will see a huge leap in the rankings after defeating #1 ranked contender.
