A highly anticipated and mouth-watering fight between former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley and former title challenger Colby Covington has been set by the UFC for September 19.

The rivalry between both the fighters goes back years and there were talks about the pair fighting back in 2018, but it never came into fruition.

Tyron Woodley and Colby Covington

Heading into this fight, Tyron Woodley stated that this is the biggest fight of his career.

This is a big fight for me. This is probably the biggest fight in my career to be honest because it’s a situation that’s like bragging rights. He’s talked all this sh** but in my mind, he really knows what time it is. And now that he has talked all that Sh** he’s got to try and live up to it and try to beat me. He’s been calling me out for 3/4 years. So now it’s to the point where it’s personal, and the other fights didn’t really mean as much.’ Tyron Woodley said on the Real Quick with Mike Swick Podcast.

I can never be a great without an adversary like Colby….I’m on the cusp. I’ve got all the things that I need to have and there’s enough people that want me to really hurt him so bad that if I do it? Now i’m a hero. We’re not talking about losing two fights in a row, we’re talking about the kid that finally took care of Colby Covington. Usman didn’t really take care of him. He won, but had he not dropped him twice Usman probably would have lost that fight.” Tyron Woodley concluded.

Colby Covington vows to finish Tyron Woodley

Both fighters are coming off of loses and this makes the match-up a highly staked one. In an interview with MMAFighting, Colby Covington stated that he was going to beat up Woodley and finish him.

We are going to see the best Tyron Woodley we have ever seen in this fight. Speaking of his last two fights, those guys, yeah they beat him on the judge’s scorecard, this fight ain’t going to the judge’s scorecards,” Colby Covington said to MMAFighting.

I’m leaving no doubt that I am the best welterweight in the world. I’m going to add another world champion to my resume. My long list of amazing resume I already have. I’m going to finish him, it is not going to the judge’s decision I promise you that. He will get left unconscious inside that Octagon.”

If Tyron Woodley does not leave the Octagon on September 19 live on ESPN on a stretcher then I didn’t do my job,” he said.
