The most anticipated boxing match of 2021 between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder 3 has been postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak in Tyson Fury’s camp.

According to the sources close to both parties the news is out that there’s a COVID-19 outbreak in Tyson Fury’s camp and many of the training partners and side-coaches in the camp are under COVID-19 influence and all this could result in getting the fight postponed from July 24 to a further date. The fight is a joint pay-per-view with Fox, and that network has the Manny Pacquiao-Errol Spence Jr. PPV on Aug. 21, so Fury-Wilder 3 would likely be moved to September, sources told ESPN.

“We continue to monitor the health status of Tyson and his team, and the status of the event has not changed to date,” a statement from Top Rank said Thursday.

This fight is a joint pay-per-view event with Fox, and that same network has the Manny Pacquiao-Errol Spence Jr. PPV on Aug. 21, so the chances are that Fury-Wilder 3 would be moved to September as there are no further dates available at the moment.

Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder 3

Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder first fought in 2018. The fight was one of the biggest fights in the history of boxing and the result of the fight made it even bigger. Tyson was winning most of the exchanges in the fight but he got brutally knocked down in the early 12th round but surprisingly he got up from that and won the rest of the round. The bout ended in a controversial draw and the duo was immediately scheduled for a rematch.

The pair met again in February 2020 and ‘The Gypsy King’ finished the job this time and left no doubts in anyone’s mind that he is the better boxer than Wilder. Fury won the fight in the seventh round via technical knockout to capture the WBC and vacant Ring magazine heavyweight titles.

The trilogy fight was again booked for July 18. However, due to Wilder still recovering from surgery and concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic, the fight was postponed to October. The date was again pushed back to December due to the COVID-19 lockdown restrictions. After ESPN was unwilling to telecast the match as the event would clash with their NFL schedule, it was suggested the date be pushed back for the third time. All this pissed of fury and he decided to pull out from all these negotiations.

In the meantime, Tyson started negotiations for a unification bout with reigning WBA (Super), IBF, and WBO champion, Anthony Joshua. Following months of negotiations between Fury and Joshua, the fight was about to get finalized but it was announced that the arbitration judge had ruled in Wilder’s favor, ordering Fury to face Wilder next. Following the arbitration decision, Tyson Fury’s co-promoter, Bob Arum, revealed that it will Deontay Wilder fight next and they will fight on July 24, at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
