UFC visits Liverpool for the first time ever on May 27, 2018 as hometown hero #6 ranked welterweight Darren Till takes on two-time welterweight title challenger #1 ranked welterweight Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson.
The card had a set co-main event as European prospect Gunnar Nelson took on Neil Magny. However just a few days ago, Nelson pulled out of the fight due a knee injury that might require surgery. Even a replacement looked in jeopardy as there were not many options available in the top 15. One of the only rare options available was #6 ranked welterweight Jorge Masvidal. Masvidal’s manager Abraham Kawa has offered on Masvidal replacing injured Nelson. (via Twitter):
Jorge Masvidal’s manager, Abraham Kawa, has pitched the UFC on making Jorge Masvidal vs Neil Magny at a 180-pound catchweight for the Liverpool card on 5/27 now that Gunnar Nelson is out. No word just yet on if the UFC will accept.

Masvidal last fought at UFC 217 against two-time welterweight title challenger Stephen Thompson in November. Masvidal faced a crushing defeat against Thompson via unanimous decision. This was the first time he was outclassed as Masvidal has only lost razor thin split decisions.
Masvidal at a conference mentioned that he will take some time off to sharpen his skills. Interestingly when native Darren Till was campaigning for an opponent on the same card, Masvidal denied the offer saying he would be free only in June. Masvidal has offered to step in on short notice at a catchweight of 180 pounds. Masvidal has made lightweight limit of 155 pounds, hence 180 pounds would be relatively easy for him to make. Magny has some momentum on his side coming off a victory against former interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit.
Other fights on the card include:
170 lbs: Neil Magny vs. TBA
185 lbs: Tom Breese vs. Daniel Kelly
185 lbs: Trevor Smith vs. Elias Theodorou
