A man who often flies under the radar despite being an important fixture in all UFC pay-per-view cards, Bruce Buffer has been enhancing the presentation aspect of the product for a number of years now.
His unique and characteristic way of announcing fights and making fighter introductions has become synonymous with the UFC, something that fighters like Mark Hunt and Luke Rockhold were only too keen on re-iterating when asked about the legendary announcer in the UFC 221 press conference that concluded today morning.
Mark Hunt had this to say:
“I think he’s great. I think it rounds up the whole package, the press conferences, all the hype…this (UFC) is the top end. It’s the big time baby [laughs].
This is how it should be.
It should feel like the big time. The bright lights, everything. It’s the best thing (MMA promotion) in the world. And then walking out to a packed arena is also the best thing in the world.
And the icing on the cake is what Bruce Buffer says, you know.”
And rounded up his piece by attempting to imitate the iconic ‘It’s Time!’ phrase, sparking laughter among the media members present.
Luke Rockhold was also equally effusive in his praise, if a tad less theatrical.
“Bruce is a legend. The Buffers themselves are legends. And having their presence elevates it (the occasion). It’s a good feeling, it’s great.
Personally, you see him introducing you makes it (the experience) that much more real. No doubt.”
