Thiago Santos defeated Kevin Holland via Unanimous Decision
This being Holland’s debut fight and that too on a two week short notice, he did enough to match up with the much experienced and heavy hitter Santos. Holland was confident as he claimed this is a perfect match up for him to pick up the first win inside the octagon. But but he underestimated Santos who overwhelmed him in first and third round. Santos took him down with ease but despite his heavy ground and pound could not finish Holland who was intelligently defending from his back. As Holland got back up he was still trying to get back in the game but Santos landed some heavy body shots as he started to pick him apart. Holland definitely has skills, but he needs to get serious and not take his opponents lightly like he did today.

Aldrich defeated Polyana Viana via Unanimous Decision
This strawweight action was all about exchanging punches to the face and a few submission attempts. But mostly two ladies trying to punch their way out. Aldrich was not afraid of Viana’s ground game and did venture into that territory to test her own ground skills. Vianna was unable to put pressure and get any kind of submission though she won her last fight via submission. With her hands down way low, Viana was susceptible to the jabs from Aldrich. Every time she stepped in ate a jab from Aldrich and her head snapped back and forth. A very important lesson for Viana who just can’t rely on her BJJ to win future fights as the ladies of strawweight division can surely bang.

Renato Carneiro defeated Cub Swanson via Submission in Round 1
If you can knockdown a veteran with just a jab and then submit him with just 45 secs left to the first round, then the division needs to be put to notice about Renato’s call out – for a title shot. The division has way too many fighters Renato needs to get past by. But tonight with his calm & composed performance he put on an amazing performance, one that could be the best in his last five fights. A big win for Moicano can lead to another stepping stone towards his title contention.

Henry Cejudo defeated Demetrious Johnson via Split Decision
Henry Cejudo shocked the world by defeating the long reigning champion with a performance of his lifetime. The last time Johnson lost was in 2011, since then he was on a thirteen fight win streak, defended his title numerous times setting record in the UFC and defeated Henry in their last meeting. That’s how mighty Johnson’s reign was. and he displayed it in the first round. But Henry had improved multi fold since their last clash. With a clear game plan Henry kept on putting the pressure and bounced back in the second. What ensued was a back and forth action of strikes, take down attempts, defence and more take down attempts. With each passing round, Henry was able to secure take down after take down taking him a step ahead in the judges scorecard. All hell broke lose in the final seconds as they both exchanged leather but still stood tall. With this win Henry has changed the course of history for this division and now plans to step up to 135 pound division to challenge the champion.

T.J. Dillashaw defeated Cody Garbrandt via KO in Round 1
This puts an end to the vicious rivalry between TJ Dillshaw and Cody Garbrant. If Cody would have won, there could have been a rubber match. But there’s no need for it as the wild exchange between these two early in the first round ended up in a TKO. Cody was all bout aggression, anger and revenge while TJ’s smile said it all – he had no pressure and was all about fun. With this win, TJ solidifies his position as the best bantamweight champion and now has some serious contenders knocking his door.
