It’s no secret that Tyron Woodley has never been a commercially hit guy and historically his PPV numbers haven’t done great. UFC 228, where he defended his UFC Welterweight title for the fourth time is no different. According to Dave Meltzer of WON, UFC 228 PPV numbers are well below expectations. Estimates reveal it has done less than 130,000 PPV buys.

UFC 228 Pay-Per-View numbers are well below expectations

The last time Tyron Woodley headlined a PPV was against Stephen Thompson at UFC 209 and it was estimated that it did around 300,000 buys, which is not a very encouraging number. But UFC 228 has done nearly half the PPV buys compared to UFC 209.

Controversial Welterweight contender even predicted that UFC 228 would flop at the box office. Last month he said:

“It’s short-sighted. That fight’s not going to do 100,000 buys. Mark my words. If it does 100,000 buys, it will barely be over that,” Covington told FloCombat. “If they would have waited a couple of months, it’s going to do a minimum of 500,000 buys.”
