Being labelled as an underdog status for his title fight against the #1 contender Brian Ortega, Max Holloway defied the odds once again with his second successful title defense. Controlling the first two rounds, Max battered Ortega with this elite striking as Ortega continued to stand & trade inside the pocket with the champ. He attempted more than 400 strikes most of which landed and did their job. Ortega begins to bleed and shows sign of being overwhelmed as the round is snatched by the Hawaiian who beautifully slips the punches and counters back. Ortega needed to fix things and he comes out guns blazing in the third and he puts Holloway on wobbly feet with his punch. With so much exchange happening between these two, Ortega completely lets go off his ground skills and looked like he wanted to prove that he can stand and exchange with Holloway – A wrong move which later proved to be disastrous as the doctor declared the fight to be stopped. With his ginormous win, Holloway extends his win streak
to 13.
