UFC 235 is turning out to be a great card as it will now host not one but two title fights. Firstly it was announced that the new light heavyweight champion Jon Jones will defend his belt against Anthony Smith and now the welterweight champion is all set to defend his belt against Kamaru Usman.

Ariel Helwani confirmed the news on Twitter, “In the end, while Colby Covington was ready to go for 235, UFC chose to go with Usman because his stock rose mightily in their eyes after the RDA win + his subsequent willingness to fight anyone on short notice in January despite being injured. Covington held out and it cost him.”

It was speculated that Colby Covington will get a chance to fight Tyron Woodley first but Kamaru’s willingness to fight everyone forced the matchmakers to give him a chance before Colby.
Ben Askren is also making his long-awaited debut in UFC against Robbie Lawler at UFC 235. UFC 235 also marks the return of Zabit Magomedsharipov against Jeremy Stephens. With these fights, UFC 235 looks promising but the only issue is Jon Jones still has to get his license on 29th January first and after that, he will be eligible to fight.
