Nikita Krylov defeated Ovince St. Preux via Submission in Round 2

For Nikita Krylov, getting back at OSP was more important than anything at this point of his career. Having lost to OSP back in 2014 via submission, the Ukrainian light heavyweight Krylov was eager to lay his hands and prove that he’s a much improved fighter. Krylov’s aggression was met with OSP’s hesitancy to engage and taking the fight to the ground repeatedly. Krylov scrambled back to his feet, launched some nasty leg kicks keeping OSP busy, but the former light heavyweight title contender was relentless in his take downs. In the second round, it was Krylov who changed levels and took the fight to the ground immediately, slipping around to the back and then slid his arm under the neck before letting the squeeze do the job and tapping OSP at 2:30 secs. With this victory, Krylov  joins the ranks of other men in his division to secure four submission wins.

Dwight Grant defeated Alan Jouban via Split Decision

With more than a year of staying away and dealing with injuries, Alan Jouban was finally ready to make his return but it was not an easy road for him. Jouban had to initially face the striking prowess of Grant but as the rounds passed by, Jouban began to let loose and get his rhythm back. Jouban was the one to press for more action while Grant looked like he held back to avoid any kind of error on his part. It was a back and forth action in the second round. Jouban finished the fight strong with his takedown at the end of round three and unloading punches on the ground. Despite the striking scoreboard showing Jouban leading with points, but it was not enough for him. Grant now has two straight wins while Jouban drops his first loss of 2019.

Khalil Rountree defeated Eryk Anders via Unanimous Decision

With renewed focus and elite Muay Thai training in Thailand, Khalil Rountree stepped in to the Octagon to face a tough opponent. But by the looks of their fighting stance and approach, Khalil was the one with relaxed and confident approach. From the moment he unleashed his first inside leg kick, Erik Anders knew he had to deal with these nasty leg kicks throughout the fight. As the fight progressed and more heavy leg kicks landed, Erik looked confused and lost unable to engage in any striking exchanges. Khalil dropped Erik four times throughout the fight but was careful enough to engage on the ground. With the final round remaining, Erik’s legs were a total mess and he had very little to offer and managed to survive the final round handing out a clean victory to Khalil.

Israel Adesanya def. Kelvin Gastelum via Unanimous Decision

The interim middleweight title bout was the co-main event between Gastellum and Adesanya, resulting in one of the best title fights of the recent times. Both the fighters gave it all inside the octagon for five rounds but it was Adesanya who snatched the belt with his superior fighting skills. Gastellum started off the fight in high spirits knocking down Adesnya in the first round, but the New Zealand fighter bounced back in the second round. It was a back and forth contest for the next two rounds as Gastellum and Adesnya both scored knockdowns but unable to finish the fight. Adesanya changed the momentum in the final round when he badly hurt Gastellum with an over hand right and extended it into a wild exchange. With seconds left in the final round Gatellum was down on the receiving end. Adesanya continues his dominance in the middle weight division with six straight wins and keeps his record intact at 17-0.

It was a long time coming for Dustin Poirier who after 8 years of competing in the Octagon and 22 fights under the UFC banner, has finally picked up his first title belt. But the win came at the cost of a five round war against the flyweight champion Max Holloway, whom Dustin defeated for the second time. The rematch was a lot different from their first bout. Max had improved by leaps and bounds, which was evident in tonight’s performance. Max threw a lot more punches but the power shots did their damage and caused Max to slow down in the early rounds. Both the fighters had their chance to end the fight, which in turn resulted in an exciting standup exchange. With this loss, Max snaps his 13 fight win streak. Dustin will now face Khabib to unify the light weight title belt later this year.
