It was a long time coming for Dustin Poirier who after 8 years of competing in the Octagon and 22 fights under the UFC banner, has finally picked up his first title belt. But the win came at the cost of a five round war against the flyweight champion Max Holloway, whom Dustin defeated for the second time. The rematch was a lot different from their first bout. Max had improved by leaps and bounds, which was evident in tonight’s performance. Max threw a lot more punches but the power shots did their damage and caused Max to slow down in the early rounds. Both the fighters had their chance to end the fight, which in turn resulted in an exciting standup exchange. With this loss, Max snaps his 13 fight win streak. Dustin will now face Khabib to unify the light weight title belt later this year.
