Blagoy Ivanov defeated Tai Tuivasa via Unanimous Decision

With his first UFC win early this year, the former World Series of Fighting/Professional Fighters League champion Blagoy Ivanov faced yet another tough competition as he faced the hard hitter from down under Tai Tuivasa. The main event card opener between these heavyweights went the distance with both the big boys slugging it out until they were completely worn out. Blagoy scored big when he knocked Tuivasa down early in the first round, but failed to capitalize the opening which made the Australian come back with aggression. Tuivasa landed multiple inside leg kicks that restricted Blagoy’s movement but in the process kept on eating some heavy blows. Utilizing his sambo skills, Blagoy took down Tuivasa and attempted submitting him but he was saved by the bell. With this win, Blagoy is now on a two fight win streak, while Tuivasa has now lost two in a row.

Petr Yan defeated Jimmie Rivera via Unanimous Decision

With less than a year in the UFC and stepping inside the octagon for every three months, Peter Yan won all of his four fights with his trademark fighting style of giving no mercy to his opponents. Tonight was no different against the veteran Jimmie Rivera; his toughest challenge. After having some difficulty early in the first round dealing with Jimmie’s striking, Yan landed a brutal left hook in the final moments and dropped Rivera to steal back the round. Yan continued his aggression but was met with the leg kicks which eventually slowed him down a bit and Jimmie making good use of the change in momentum. Yan continued to nail Jimmie with his head kicks and punches but the New Jersey native was in no mood to back down. But in the dying moments of the fight, Yan was able to take Jimmie to the ground giving him the edge to win the fight. Yan has now won 5 fights in the row and wants to fight for the bantamweight title.

Tony Ferguson defeated Donald Cerrone via TKO in Round 2

Touted as the people’s main event, the lightweight bout between Tony Ferguson and Donald Cerrone was a long time coming heavy fan favorite match up. The fight kicked off as anticipated with both the light weights exchanging crisp technical strikes. Ferguson kept using different angles to land punches and elbows as he continued to march ahead, while Cerrone enjoyed countering Ferguson’s every move. As the fight progressed, the exchanges got more exciting with numerous jabs and leg kicks but a late punch after the bell in the second round from Ferguson caused a stir among the crowd. Right before the start of the third round, Cerrone blew his nose and his eye got shut completely causing the doctors to step in stop the fight. The former interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson is now on a twelve-fight winning streak and the next in line for the title contention.

Valentina Shevchenko defeated Jessica Eye via KO in Round 2

The co-main event title fight between the two bantamweights just couldn’t go beyond the second round as Valentina Shevchenko was able to defend her belt successfully for the first time by knocking out Jessica Eye with a head kick. Shevchenko began unleashing body kicks in the first round and instantly got Jessica to respect her kicks. With a slick slip and clinch, Shevchenko took Jessica to the ground and kept her there for the most part of the first round. In the second round, Jessica came out cautious but the kick landed on her head instead of the body. With this spectacular win, Shevchenko is now 6-2 inside the octagon and ready to face her next flyweight opponent.

Henry Cejudo defeated Marlon Moraes via TKO in Round 3

The main event title fight saw the crowning of the new bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo who captured the vacant belt with a third round TKO win over a very game Marlon Moraes. Cejudo took some time to open up as he experienced difficulties with Marlon’s speed and leg kicks in the first round. Inside leg kicks became a norm and had their affects on Cejudo’s legs. But Moraes began fading from the second round as Cejudo pressured him from every where. Cejudo had major success in the clinch as he landed numerous knees which eventually costed Marlon to back down. Once Cejudo got Marlon to the ground, he unleashed elbows and hammerfists to seal the deal with just 10 seconds remaining in the third round. Cejudo is now both the flyweight champion and bantamweight champion.
