UFC 251 is without a doubt one of the biggest and the most anticipated fight card of 2020. The card is filled with three-title fights across several weight classes.
The first fight to feature at UFC 251 will be for the vacant bantamweight title between Petr Yan and former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo.
The UFC bantamweight title was vacated by Henry Cejudo, who retired from the sport of MMA following his win over Dominick Cruz at UFC 249 in Jacksonville, Florida last May.
The co-main event features a highly anticipated rematch between former UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway and current UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski.
The pair previously fought at UFC 245, which took place in Las Vegas last December. In that fight, the Australian managed to beat the Hawaiian via a unanimous decision becoming the first-ever Australian born UFC champion.
In the main event, BMF champion Jorge Masvidal will take on UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman on short notice at Yas Islands in Abu Dhabi this weekend at UFC 251.
Initially, it was Gilbert Burns who was scheduled to fight Kamaru Usman, but the fight fell apart after Burns tested positive for Covid-19.
There aren’t that many UFC cards where fans are blessed with three title fights in a row and fans don’t have to feel guilty about paying for the PPV as they are getting their money’s worth.
Masvidal isn’t worried about fighting Usman on six days notice as he believes his skillsets are better than Usman any day of the week.
“Six days’ notice, how prepared could I be, you know?” Masvidal said during a UFC 251 virtual media day from Abu Dhabi on Thursday. “I’m as prepared as I need to be for Usman, but obviously it’s not a full training camp as if I had six weeks to prepare. I’d be different, my weight wouldn’t be this high. So I’m not going to say weight-wise I’m 100 percent. But everything else, my mind is ready, my heart is ready, my skill set is better than his any day of the week, so I just gotta go out and prove it.”
