UFC 252 sells 500,000 PPV worldwide

Daniel Cormier vs Stipe Miocic, UFC 252 predictions

The trilogy between Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier at UFC 252 was the UFC’s fourth-best selling pay-per-view of 2020 with estimated 500,000 PPV buys.

Even in this ongoing pandemic situation UFC is still doing a great job as compared to other sports. UFC is keeping its fans engaged in the sports by delivering massive events at regular intervals.

John Ourand of Sports Business Journal reported on Thursday that UFC 252 generated an estimated 500,000 global buys, with about 400,000 coming from ESPN+ subscriptions in the United States. That would eclipse the first matchup between them at UFC 226, although it’s unknown what was the PPV buys for UFC 241. This was reported by TSN’s Aaron Bronsteter via his tweet.

In his tweet he stated “Per @Ourand_SBJ, UFC 252 drew the fourth-most buys of any UFC event in 2020. UFC 252 sold more than 500,000 buys worldwide and roughly 400,000 in the US on ESPN+ per Ourand. The report states that the three events with bigger numbers were UFC 246, UFC 251, and UFC 249.”

UFC posting strong numbers during the pandemic

According to Ourand of Sports business journal, this was the UFC’s fourth-best selling pay-per-view of 2020. UFC 246: McGregor vs. Cowboy, UFC 249: Ferguson vs. Gaethje, and UFC 251: Usman vs. Masvidal all had more dominant PPV buys, whereas UFC 247: Jones vs. Reyes, UFC 248: Adesanya vs. Romero, and 250: Nunes vs. Spencer was not even close and did not do well in the terms of numbers which matters the most from the business point of view.

The sole reason for UFC 252 that made it perform well was the main event which was the trilogy fight between Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier for the heavyweight championship. As well, Sean O’Malley fought Marlon Vera. It also featured a heavyweight bout between Junior dos Santos and Jairzinho Rozenstruik.

The UFC did a great job promoting its heavyweight title trilogy fight between Miocic and Cormier and the promotion was rewarded with amazing PPV buys in recent times. When you analyze UFC 252 to some of the other events this year which did not have some big stars in the line up other than the main event did not perform well whereas UFC 252 surely did a great job.

UFC had many events this year, that featured big names like Jon Jones, Israel Adesanya, Yoel Romero, Amanda Nunes, and still, the events did not perform well in the terms of numbers. So UFC will be happy that they pulled out an amazing event even in such tough times where half the world is closed and many sports events have canceled their season and then there’s UFC who’s making their fans happy and also pulling off great fights with great PPV numbers.
