At UFC 313 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday, Magomed Ankalaev defeated Alex Pereira to win the UFC light heavyweight title in the main event, earning the biggest victory of his UFC career.
While Ankalaev was gaining momentum on his way to a unanimous decision victory, Pereira was in command of the first round but seemed to falter as the bout progressed. Ankalaev has won 14 fights in a row.
ESPN classified Pereira as the second-best fighter in terms of weight going into the battle. This was his first defeat in the 205-pound class of the UFC.
In a rematch of their hotly contested fight from March 2023, Justin Gaethje defeated Rafael Fiziev by unanimous decision in the co-main event. By majority decision, Gaethje prevailed in the first bout. Fiziev, who returned from injury, took this fight on short notice after Gaethje’s original opponent, Dan Hooker, withdrew due to a hand injury.
