Only one fighter in the history of the UFC has been able to execute the rare submission of kneebar. However, UFC 228 featured two of them. First in the featured bout of Fight Pass prelims by Aljamain ‘Funkmaster’ Sterling and then by Zabit Magomedsharipov, who went on to admit that Sterling’s submission inspired him to use a kneebar as well.

Sterling has now took to YouTube to demonstrate his sleek yet dangerous kneebar which he calls the ‘Funk-Strudel’ Suloev Stretch. (via YouTube):

Sterling took on a surging Stamann to hand him his first loss in the UFC and snap his 10 fight winning streak. Sterling was in a back mount position on a grounded Stamann who was busy in elevating himself to shake Sterling off. Little did he knew Sterling’s intentions who was busy in locking up the kneebar. Stamann seemed in agonizing pain after the fight was stopped.

The submission is originally knows as the ‘Suloev stretch’ named after former UFC veteran, the late Amar Suloev who first used it. It is a modified kneebar from the back mount position. It can be transferred into a spaldel leg finish which is a rarely seen move in wrestling.
