UFC: Andre Ewell signed his UFC contract 2 days before he would have been homeless

The main event of UFC Fight Night 137 in Sao Paulo, Brazil featured a classic newcomer vs. veteran matchup as Andre ‘The Highlight’ Ewell took on former UFC bantamweight champion Renan Barao.

Barao being 1-4 in his last five fights was matched up against a debutant in Ewell. However that does speak volumes about what UFC thinks about Ewell’s potential, and he didn’t disappoint. Ewell edged Barao via a split decision.

Ewell earned huge success in the earlier minutes of the first round as he dropped Barao. Barao however was able to get a takedown and secure top control throughout the round. Barao also locked in a deep armbar which Ewell had to fight through.

In the second and third rounds however Ewell figured out his rhythm and was able to bounce back by hurting Barao multiple times by his leg hand to get the victory. Barao also missed weight by 6 pounds which further gave Ewell a slight disadvantage.

However in his post-fight octagon interview, Ewell made a shocking revelation that just two days before he signed this contract, he was about to be homeless with his family.

The call certainly couldn’t have come at a right time as a contract is certainly a guaranteed source of income for Ewell. For a fighter who shares his nickname with the exciting Justin Gaethje, Ewell certainly has a lot to offer in his future fights with the promotion.
