Fight Night 138 will feature an absolute slugfest as #9 ranked light heavyweight Anthony ‘Lionheart’ Smith (30-13 MMA, 6-2 UFC) will face the biggest challenge of his career when he takes on former title challenger and #2 ranked Volkan ‘No Time’ Ozdemir (15-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) in Moncton, Canada on October 27.
A move to light heavyweight has been a sort of career resurging for ‘Lionheart’ as he is coming of two consecutive first round knockouts of legends in Rashad Evans and Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua in his last two fights at light heavyweight.
With the division champ Daniel Cormier capturing the heavyweight belt and is slated to stay at heavyweight to take on Brock Lesnar, there isn’t much clarity about the light heavyweight title picture.
Smith, therefore, in an interview with FloCombat, revealed that he is shifting his attention towards former light heavyweight champion Jon ‘Bones’ Jones.
“The chances of me fighting Daniel Cormier are about as close to zero as you’re going to get. The chances of me fighting Jon Jones could be six months away,” Smith said. “That’s the realization. Maybe USADA will come and hammer him with a four-year suspension, but I think if USADA was going to give him four years, they would have already done it. That’s my opinion. If Jon comes back and he’s back in the near future and I do what I think I’m going to do to Volkan, honestly, I think Jon Jones is probably next. I really do.”
