Anthony Smith is currently on a two fight winning streak. Since his light heavyweight debut, he has defeated two veterans of the sport, Rashad Evans and Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua. He has since went on to call-out Daniel Cormier for a title shot and even feels that he is in prime position to welcome former champion Jon Jones back to the octagon. However, some fans and pundits alike have been critical of Smith and made a good argument about Smith only defeating two out-of-prime veterans who are on the verge of retirement.
Smith has now responded to all the criticism in a recent interview given backstage as a guest at UFC Fight Night 135. Here’s what he had to say:
I think for the fans, it’s going to make a difference, because as much as I think it’s (expletive), everyone pretends like I’m out here beating up children that can’t defend themselves any more, we know that’s not the case. But it is what it is, so now, it’s someone closer to my age, and I think this will really shut the people up and say, ‘Alright, maybe he’s for real.’
