Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender is back for its second season and it features an interesting bag of contenders. ‘Notorious’ Nick Newell who is a one armed fighter with a 14-1 record (with his only loss coming to Justin Gaethje) will feature in the first episode which would take place on June 12. Alongside Nick, the heavyweight bout features two former NFL athletes facing off against each other in Austen Lane and Greg Hardy.
Released from Chicago Bears in 2015, Lane has fought six times as an amateur fighter and is undefeated in his professional career with 4 wins. He faces the similarly undefeated Greg Hardy who is 3-0 as a professional. Hardy is receiving a lot of attention due to his conviction for assaulting a female although that was expunged after the victim could not be found to testify in his appeal. After a media outcry, Hardy was cast out his NFL team and decided to make a move towards MMA.

Austen feels confident about the fight,“I definitely feel confident with the matchup,” he said. “Let’s be honest: At the end of the day, we’re probably about same height, reach might be in my advantage by a little, and he might outweigh me by a few pounds. All of that stuff is close. But what I have is experience. I have 10 fights. You can train all you want, and you can have the best coaches in the world, but where you get better as a fighter is in the cage.”
Austen also said that he was not thinking about Greg’s checkered past, instead choosing to focus on his skill set.
“At the end of the day, he’s got to look at himself in the mirror for the things he’s done,” he said. “When we’re talking about a fight, I can’t worry about what he’s done in the past. All that matters is what he brings in his skill set, and that’s all that I’m focused on.”
Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender returns on June 12 and it would be exciting to see if this matchup brings new talent to the UFC Heavyweight division.
